Hybrid Sport – Step it Up

For today’s Hybrid Step It Up activity I was to create a game by putting two sports together I decided to make a game from table tennis and football/ soccer.   I decided to use table tennis to give me more practice with  coordination for when I go back to table tennis classes and football because it has goals that are very handy to use and it is a sport I would like to start playing.  I also wanted to keep it linked to my Kick Start sports but since it was raining outside I had to think of something I could do inside.

My Sport name is: Ping Pong Goal

This is a video of me playing my game with my mum.  I have put a list of the rules and changes I would make after the video.

You need to set the game out as you can see in the video I had to use blocks behind the goal to stop the ball from going out.   It is a two or 4 player game the aim of the game is to hit the ball to the other person’s goal and the other person has to try and stop the ball from going in the goal.   You can only hit the ball when it is on your half of the table and only hit it once on your side.  If the ball is on the other side of the table you must have the bat off the table.  I also forgot when playing with my mum that you are not meant to put the bat inside the square in front of the goal.

Changes I would make:
– Bigger goal
– Blocks around the full table
– To make the game a bit harder you could also add a wall or net in the middle
– I also thought you could add blocks as obstacles to make it look like there were players on the field too

Laser Maze – Step it up

Here is my laser maze activity. I used streamers for the lasers as they are delicate so if you touch them too much they would snap. Here is me trying it out and trying to get to the other end.  It was not easy as it was very windy and I had to modify it a bit from the picture on the Kick Start.

Connecting with your Whenua – Step It Up

The Connecting with your Whenua Step it up activity was to while on your walk take loads of pictures of things you see.  This is my slide show of my walk to Rainbow Falls (please make sure you read my Connecting with your Whenua – kick start to see why this place is special to me)

Hybrid Sport – Kick Start

Today’s activity was ‘hybrid sport’ for the Kick start we had to come up with an activity where we could do a PE lesson combining two sports or more.

I chose to combine tennis and football (soccer).

To do this activity you need tennis rackets, a tennis ball and two 1/2 size football goals.   You would split into 2 teams and everyone would have a tennis racket other than the goalie for each team.   The aim of the game is to pass the ball using the rackets to your teammates without the other team knocking the ball away,  if they knock the ball away the ball goes to their team, to score you must hit the ball  into the goal without the goalkeeper stopping it with their hands.  You are allowed to move with the ball but you must bounce it on your racket the whole time.   There must be 3 passes made before you can try score, you can also do rebound balls as long as the ball does not hit the ground or it would be the goalkeeper’s ball.

Ping Pong Battle Game – Step it Up

Here is my Ping Pong Battle Game – Step it up.  This  Challenge was super fun and my family and I played for ages trying to improve our scores.

After a few practice turns we did a race to see who could get the most in within 20 seconds, Here are the scores:

Lucus – 5/8

Dad – 8/8

Mum – 7/8

Alex – 4/8

Connecting with your Whenua – Kick start

For today’s Summer Learning Kick Start Activity I had to go for a walk to a place that shows a connection to my Whenua.

I had to use pictures of the last time I went to my special place as I can’t go just now because my Mum over did it with her leg and is now on rest mode aka turning into a couch potato.

I chose Rainbow Falls in Kerikeri, this place is special to me because I went here with my Grandparents when they were over visiting from Scotland in October (yes my mum is in a moon boot in the pictures and is sill in it now – she really messed up her ankle).  It is a very special place to us because ever since I was little my Granny and Grandpa told me when I see a rainbow it means they are thinking of me, and now my brothers too, so to be able to go to this place with them and see Rainbows in the falls means a lot to me and my family.

Nekeneke, nukunuku, hī! – He taumata anō / Step it up

Again I was not sure what the task was but the video showed somebody doing an obstacle course so here is one I created.  I really enjoy making obstacle courses to do as its a really fun way to keep active and you can have a competition with family or friends to see who can be the fastest or to beat your time.

equipment used:

  • trampoline/papa hūpekepeke
  • monkey bars/tutaki makimaki
  • climbing dome/ Te piki piki
  • ball/pōro
  • markers/tohu
  • table/tepu
