This week we have been learning about the Ururangi Star. This star represents the wind and weather, it has connections to Tawhirimatea (God of wind) and our 4 compass points (North, East, South and West). We focused on wind energy, wind power and kites this week. It has been lots of fun designing and creating kites. Today we made our own kite. Here is my kite plan and a picture of my kite.
Waipunarangi
This week we have been learning about Waipunarangi. This star is connected to the rain. We have been learning about the Water Cycle. We had to create something to show the water cycle. Here is my work.
Eel’s
This week we have been learning about the Waiti star that connects to freshwater. We learnt about the different types of freshwater sources and the creature that live in the water. We did some activities based around the eel.
I created a life cycle and an eel report.
The eel is an interesting creature because there are only species of eel that live in New Zealand. It has an interesting life cycle.
tupu-a-rangi
This week our star focus was Tupu-a-rangi which represents food that grows/comes from above our heads.
We have focused on the Kukupa/Kereru. We read an article from the School Journal called Kaupapa Kereru and then created a chart to share the different viewpoints of the Kereru.
I have created a Haiku poem about the Kereru
We also learnt about how Maori harvested the Kereru and Pakeha hunted it. I have created to show How Mauri harvested kukupa in the old days.
Trete of Wiyetane
This week we have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi. Here is a comic strip I did about the Treaty.
